5 year-old Girl Murdered: Wrist, Feet, Vital Organs Removed.
Fear and shock has gripped the people of Afransi in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region when the body of a 5 year-old KG1 pupil of Zion Basic School was found in the thicket of a bush around her school.
The little girl, Adwoa Sheriffa Obeng Jehu-Appiah’s decomposing body was found on Monday, March 9. 2015 by a search party after she had gone missing for five days, with some parts of her body such as the tongue, private parts and internal organs removed, and the wrist of her hands as well as her feet chopped off.
She was perceived to have been abducted by her killers on Wed. March 4, 2015 during a rehearsal by the school towards the Independence Day celebration.
Narrating the ordeal, the mother of the child, Sister Ekua Adom who is a bread seller said she came home from her daily rounds around 4 p.m. but did not see her child at home so she went to a her teacher to inquire if she had close from school.
According to the mother, the teacher said she saw the girl in school that morning but could not tell whether she had gone home after school or not.
The mother stated all frantic effort was made to locate the girl’s where about proved, as she combed every corner of the town in search of the girl.
She said she therefore went to her father to inform him of what has happened to their daughter.
When contacted, the father, Mr. Kweku Ibrahim Obeng said he was at home that afternoon, and feeling boring, he decided to go and watch a game of draught in the town and was there when the wife rushed to ask him whether Sheriffa had come to him from school, and that they could not find her.
According to the father, sensing danger, he informed his brothers and they, in the company of other friends decided to mount a search for the little girl, but all to no avail.
He said on the second day, Thursday March 5, they continued the search till evening but to no avail and therefore decided to go to the local information centers in the surrounding towns to make an announcement of the little girl’s disappearance, and also an official report to the police at the nearby town, Gomoa Obuasi.
The farther further hinted that he then organized a search party with the concent of the Chiefs, and on Monday March 9, one group of the search party called that they have found the body of little girl lying in a nearby bush around her school, almost decomposed.
Sobbing intermittently, the father said he was not even allowed by members of the search party to witness the body of his daughter because of his state of shock, so a report was then made to the police who ordered that an autopsy examination be carried on the body before it was carried away with shovel into a box for burial.
Though no arrest has been made by the police so far, the Investigator handling the case, Detective Chief Insp. Simon Kortoh said though the police suspect foul play, investigation is still underway to get the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
However some residents of the town who spoke to SpyGhana said the suspect the little girl might have been killed for ritual money purposes, which has become commonly known in the area as Sakawa.
