Police have dug out the body an 8-year-old boy who was allegedly killed by his parents at Dome in the Greater Accra Region over allegations he attempted to have sex with his mother.
The exhumation of the body is expected to assist police with investigation.
The boy was allegedly killed some two months ago over accusations he tried to have sex with his mother, Comfort Abunbero, in the middle of the night.
After the alleged murder of the 8-year-old boy by his mother and her companion (the deceased’s step-father) they then buried him in a park near Parakuo Estate at Dome, police explain.
The step-father of the boy has since been remanded by the court whilst the mother was fined and freed.
Joy News’ Beatrice Adu, who was with the team of Police and pathologists during the exhumation Tuesday, reported that “it was a nauseating and horrific scene to behold”.
The place where the boy had been furtively buried had been overgrown with weeds due to passage of time, according to Beatrice.
“You could see that on the land there was somebody’s foundation for a building, very close to the Parakuo Estate”, Beatrice reported.
The boy’s step-father, named only as Kwaku, led authorities to where the boy was buried. He was in handcuffs.
“As Police dug out the body, about four feet into the ground, the overpowering stench of the boy’s corpse spread everywhere”, Beatrice explained.
DSP Henry Agbeve, Mile 7 Police Crime Officer, told journalists that during investigations, the parents “confessed having buried the dead child here so there is a need for us to investigate further and find out that what they were telling us was the truth. So we went to court to get the necessary documents to allow us to exhume the body, after that we went to the pathologist and fixed today for the exhumation.”
DSP Agbeve further said: “It is part of the investigation because this could be an animal that was buried. We just want to ensure that it is a human being because in a murder charge you have to prove that someone was dead”, he said.
He said the pathologist would go on to establish what killed the boy, which will also help the prosecution’s case.
The boy’s mother is said to be a petty trader, while the man is a driver.
“After we have finished with our investigation and presented the facts to the court, then the court will decide the punishement to give to them”, DSP Agbeve explained.
