Peace Hyde Talks On Sexual Violence.
What is SEXUAL VIOLENCE?
Sexual violence is any sexual act or attempt to obtain a sexual act by violence orcoercion, unwanted sexual comments or advances, acts to traffic a person or acts directed against a person’s sexuality, regardless of the relationship to the victim.
It occurs in times of peace and armed conflict situations, is widespread and is considered to be one of the most traumatic, pervasive, and most common human rightsviolations.
Peace Hyde breaks the silence on “SEXUAL VIOLENCE” on her social media platforms. She took to her instagram page yesterday to post a picture of herself in a black t-shirt (#breakthesilence boldly written on it) with her mouth sealed and holding a piece of paper at the same time.
On the piece of paper was boldly written “STOP SEXUAL VIOLENCE BREAK THE SILENCE”. She captioned the picture “(We live in a world in which women are BATTERED and are unable to flee from the men who beat them, although their door is THEORETICALLY standing wide open. ONE out of every FOUR women becomes a victim of SEVERE VIOLENCE. One out of every two will be confronted by sexual harassment over her LIFETIME. These crimes are everywhere and can take place behind any front door in the country, every day, and BARELY elicit much more than a shrug of the shoulders and superficial dismay. LET’S JOIN OUR VOICES AND STOP SEXUAL VIOLENCE!… ?#?BreakTheSilence ?#?TheEightFoundation? ?#?SexualViolence? ?#?STOP??#?photooftheday? ?#?FaithbuilderFamily? ?#?fight??#?MakeAStand? ?#?Africa? ?#?TogetherWeCan? ?#?kisses?)”
Her endeavour is to educate people on sexual violence, and to work with them on preventing it. The campaign is to make people especially women and young ladies realise the privilege they are born with and the possibilities if they decide to step up. From the look of things, anyone associated with this campaign will help secure better future for the women and young ladies in the country because “when you educate a man, you educate an individual but when you educate a woman you educate the whole nation” says (Dr. Aggrey) . Women have the equal means to also speak up.
She is the change she wants to see and so she has taken a bold initiative to voice out to those it might be of concern to. She is indeed fighting a good course.
I personally believe the basic outcome of this campaign is, government should make sex education mandatory in all schools, stringent child protection policies in place and strict punishment should be given to sex offenders.
