National Service Personnel Association donate items to St Elizabeth Hospital, Ahafo Hwidiem
The National Service Personnel in the Asutifi District as part of their social responsibilities on Friday 16th September, 2016 donated Items worth about Ghc3,000.00 to the Pediatric Unit (Nutrition Unit) of the St Elizabeth Hospital, Hwidiem in the Brong Ahafo Region to augment the effort of the Hospital to combat Mal-Nutrition among children. The donation exercise formed part of the activities to climax the 2015/2016 national service year.
The Items included cartons of Lactogen, Sugar, Rice, cooking Oil, Milk, Bottled Water, Baby Diapers etc and was heavily supported by Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd and the Asutifi District NSS Secretariat.
The NASPA President, Mr George K. Antwi in his speech intimated the need for individuals and institutions to support the Hospital to eliminate mal-Nutrition among children. He emphasised that even though Asutifi District is a farming community, mal-Nutrition is prevalent among children due to poor balance diet and poor maternal care.
He again used the opportunity to also remind the management of the National Service Scheme to fast track the NSS six extension to allow the 2015/2016 national service personnel to decide their next move.
The in-charge of the Nutrition Unit of at St Elizabeth Hospital Mrs Pearl Selormey expressed her profound appreciation to the National Service personnel Association for their kind gesture and also called on other Organisations operating within the area to support the Nutrition Unit of nutritional supplements to help eliminate mal-Nutrition among children. She also called on nursing mothers to pay attention to the nutritional needs of their children. She indicated that Mal Nutrition is a critical health concern that has claimed thousands of lives of children globally and therefore needs concerted effort to deal with.
The presentation was graced by doctors and nurses in the Hospital, the Acting District NSS Coordinator as well as Executives of the National Service Personnel Association.
