Ursula Owusu-Ekuful hosts football tourney in Ablekuma West
GNA – Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, has organised a talent-hunt football gala for the youth in her constituency.
This is part of her pre-birthday celebration set to occur in the fourth week of October.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Ms Owusu said the gala was designed to give the young ones the chance to showcase their football talents.
She said the constituency has made remarkable contributions to the development of football in Ghana “as such, we want to raise the profile of the game of football in this constituency”.
Madam Owusu-Ekuful said “there are a lot of raw football talents here. And by encouraging them to compete in competitive manner against each other, we would be able to harness these talents to help develop the game of football in the constituency and the nation”.
She said it is the responsibility of every Member of Parliament to find the potentials in his or her constituency and utilize them judiciously for the development of the area.
Madam Owusu-Ekuful said the final game will be held on October 22, two days after her birthday.
“The gala features various teams from the electoral areas [within the constituency]. And in the final game which will take place after my birthday, we shall invite all the football professionals within the constituency to participate in the selection of the best teams and deserving players would be supported to further their football careers”, she said.
Madam Owusu-Ekuful said the game was also organised to bring the people together and provide them the chance to interact with their constituency leaders.
“This is also to let them know that elections are about choices and its not a war. Therefore, they should not allow themselves to be used for violence”, she said.
Madam Owusu-Ekuful expressed the optimism that her constituency would retain her in the December elections to help her continue her various initiatives in the constituency.
“Even as I am in opposition, I have been able to develop my constituency. This means that I could have done more if Nana Akuffo Addo [the NPP flag bearer] wins the Presidency”.
She said she had pushed for the expansion of the Dansoman Polyclinic to help cater for the increased population of the constituency but there has been no positive feedback from the incumbent government.
“When the President came to commission the Okpoti Millennium Schools and the New Century Upgrade, I told him we need a Polyclinic here, which he promised me one. It has been 2 years now, but it has not been done”, she said.
