Checking of expiration dates on canned foods hits Kenyasi!

The Environmental Health Department in the Asutifi North District has undertaken an unannounced exercise of checking the expiration dates of canned foods in Kenyasi.

Speaking to the media, Oware James, Head of the department said that the exercise was to ensure that canned items sold to consumers were hygienic and safe.

He added that the department educated shop owners and attendants on how to get rid of any expired products in the upcoming days to avoid facing court action.

Oware advised the public to always check for the expiration date on all canned items as this had serious health implications. He added that shop owners should try as much as possible to source their items from accredited suppliers so that in the event that the expiration date was looming, the item could be replaced.

The department took action in light of a report by the News Team on this potentially dangerous trend in the community.
