Augustine Kwesi Amoateng, the son of former Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North and narcotics ex-convict, Eric Amoateng, is hopefully the father will reunite with the family today.
Even though the former legislator was granted bail on Friday 8th August, the family said the court registrar could not sign Mr. Amoateng’s bail documents on Friday although the bail conditions were satisfied fully.
Kwesi Amoateng told Joy News “you know sometimes things don’t work the way you expect but we are on it, we are almost through”.
Mr. Eric Amoateng was arrested and jailed in the United States of America in 2006 for trafficking 136 pounds of heroin worth $6million.
He returned to Ghana on Thursday 7 August after serving a ten year jail term in an American prison but was arrested immediately on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for allegedly possessing a forged passport.
The act by the police angered his family who say the incident ruined an otherwise long awaited re-union.
He was however granted a GH? 200, 000 bail with three sureties to be justified by an Accra circuit court.
His son said all processes are being duly followed and is confident his father will be released today.
