Armed robbers launch attacks along “bad Wa-Charia road”
GNA – Residents of Charia in Wa Municipal have expressed fear of using the road linking the community to Wa as armed robbers are taking advantage of the deplorable road to launch consistent attacks on users.
The residents reported of recent robbery attacks along the stretch which resulted in the killing of two community members, a situation that has heightened fear and panic among road users plying the route.
Mr Stephen Naah, the Assembly Member for Charia Electoral Area, expressed these concerns during a community interaction programme with the Wa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Issahaku Tahiru Moomin in Charia.
Mr Naa appealed to the central government and the Municipal Assembly to tar the road to save lives and property as well as help open up the local community to economic activities.
The MCE said the Assembly is aware of the situation and plans are underway to establish a police post there to help curb robberies and control other criminal activities.
Alhaji Moomin said the Department of Urban Roads has allocated 20 kilometres of roads for tarring within the Municipality and that the six-kilometre stretch had been allocated to complete the Wa-Charia road.
He said the Assembly was awaiting approval from the Ministry of Finance for work to commence.
He said the Assembly would provide a market to ensure that basic goods are made available there.
The Assembly also plans to put up a kindergarten block to ease congestion on the existing facility to address a basic reason some parents fail to enrol their children in school.
The community was urged to apply for a ceramic factory under the “One-District-One-Factory” given its potential in pottery activities.
The MCE said Assembly plans are underway to organize a community interaction every week to deepen their relations with the grassroots.
Through the regular interaction, he noted, challenges of communities would be established for officials to take appropriate action for redress.
