Asamoah Gyan Upset !
Black Stars Striker Asamoah Gyan is currently earning a whopping £227,000 a week (approx GHS 1,300,000) playing in China for Shanghai SIPG. However Gyan is unhappy about the Ministry of Sports new directive to slash by 50% the $10,000 bonuses given to players of the National Team. As such from November this year players will now earn $5000 rather. The Black Stars Captain said about this change:
“To tell you the truth I am quite upset with this,” Asamoah Gyan told Montie FM. “I think it is an issue against personalities. We as footballers should also be considered as workers and after a hard day’s work, one needs to get paid. I don’t think when I hang up my boots and fall sick I will go into the offices of a minister and say because I played for the national team he should give me money to take care of my medical expenses. We are not slaves so such things cannot be enforced in the manner in which I hear it is being enforced.”
The Black Stars are scheduled to face Comoros on November 13th in a FIFA World Cup qualifying game. Stay tuned to see if this bonus slash will have any impact on their performance.
