Asantehene votes in the presidential and parliamentary polls

GNA – Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, joined millions of registered voters across the 47 constituencies in the Ashanti Region to vote in the presidential and parliamentary polls.

He cast his ballot at the Manhyia Palace Polling Centre in the Manhyia South Constituency at exactly 11:20 hours.

His wife, Lady Julia, cast her ballot at the same centre and on hand, to take the King and the spouse through the voting process, was the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr. Serebour Quiacoe.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Boakye, the Regional Commander, was present himself to make sure everything was in order.

Voting in the 5,190 polling centres in the region has generally been smooth and incident-free.

Long queues also continue to be seen at many of the polling centres more than five hours after the exercise began.

At the Oforikrom Police Station ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’, and Ayigya-Ahenbronum centres in the Oforikrom Constituency, people voting for the first time, the aged and the physically challenged, were all out to cast their ballot.

More than 300 people had voted at Ayigya-Ahenbronum when reporters of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) covering the polls under the “GNA Tracks Election 2016,” project, funded by Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL), the nation’s foremost indigenous oil marketing company, and CIMG 2015 Petroleum Company of the Year, got there.

The situation was not different in the Asawasi, Afigya-Sekyere South, Atwima-Nwabiagya South and Kwadaso Constituencies.

At the Asuoyeboa SSNIT Flats polling centre, in the Kwadaso Constituency, 365 people had already voted.

In excess of 300 voters had also cast their ballot at Kodie Methodist Primary Primary ‘A’ centre in Afigya Kwabre South, when the GNA visited.

At the Aboaso Centre ‘A’ in the Atwima-Nwabiagya South, 311 out of the 621 voters had voted, with 409 having cast their ballot at Apemhaase ‘B’ centre.

Eight hundred and thirty (830) people had registered to vote at that centre.

A 59-year old blind man, Isaac Kofi Boateng, was among voters who cast their ballot at the Amakom Division Lower ‘B’ Centre in the Subin Constituency.
