CEO of City Lights calls for political unity.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of City Lights, Prince Emmanuel Okeson, has called for political unity as the countries prepares to go into the political season for presidential and parliamentary elections next year.
He said peace and stability are prerequisite requirements in any democratic dispensation and all political actors have to commit themselves towards peaceful elections to further establish Ghana as a politically stable country.
“We can be strong in our diversity and it is important to protect the peace we are currently enjoying to build a prosperous society”. His call comes on the back of pockets of violence recorded in the Talensi constituency during a recent bye-elections.
Prince Okeson said this in Accra when he was presented with an award by the Pamela Bridgewater Project. The Project aims at promoting political unity and peaceful elections in Africa.
The CEO of City Lights was recognized for his outstanding contribution to political unity and peaceful elections over the past years in Ghana and Nigeria.
“I wish to call on all to bear in mind that peace and stability matter most in every modern society” he said.
He said it is equally important for the political elite and the ordinary citizens to cultivate the culture of tolerance since it is imperative for citizens to appreciate each others view points without engaging in violence.
Prince Okeson said Ghana has over the years received praises from other African countries and the rest of the world for displaying political maturity during election periods and next year cannot be allowed to be any different.
“Nigeria has recently succeeded in coming through an election without any incidents and although Nigeria has learnt a lot from Ghana, it is now time for Ghana to also learn from the recent experience of Nigeria” he said.
According to him violence is always expensive in the long run and it is usually important to forestall violence before it erupts.
A Coordinator at the Pamela Bridgewater Project, Mr Abdallah Musah, in presenting the award for promotion of political unity to Prince Okeson described the latter as a man of his time who has his nation and continent at heart.
He said it is highly encouraging to see business moguls show commitment to the peaceful development of the societies and also contributing positively to political developments.
“We at Start in Ghana Investment celebrate your achievements and we are glad to say that you have served as an inspiration to many who may never even have the opportunity to meet you” he said to the CEO.
Prince Okeson was presented with a certificate of recognition for the promotion of political unity.
