First Ever Annual Female Journalism And Media Awards Announced.
The first ever Female Journalism and Media Awards (FJMA) dedicated to honouring and celebrating the achievements of outstanding female journalists and media professionals in Ghana is to be held in Accra.
The event scheduled for July, is expected to galvanise and inspire women professionals in print journalism, online reporting, radio and television broadcasting, among others.
A release signed by Ms Priscilla Nkansah, Media Relations Officer of FJMA Magazine Ghana, and copied to GNA on Wednesday said the annual awards was launched in March to coincide with activities marking the International Women’s Day.
“This will therefore not only reveal role models of such professional women in the media, but will single them out for the impact they have made in their respective institutions and on women in their communities.
“It is indeed an exciting night for ladies in journalism. The night will see over 30 exciting journalism and media categories up for grabs by the best and brightest in the profession including the coveted overall female journalist of the year”.
The event is being organised by the FJMA Magazine and supported by the Women’s Centre Ghana, a leading women’s empowerment organization in Ghana.
The statement, therefore, urged corporate Ghana to support the awards initiative, which would in the long run, help improve the standards, quality, ethical and professional reportage by female journalists as well as sensitise them on their role in reporting effectively on women’s issues.
Among the objectives of the annual FJMA is the promotion of unity and sisterhood, improving sensitivity on gender reporting and advocacy as well as recognising excellence.
