‘Good Things Happen in Glasgow’ Launched In Accra.
Inspired by the unusual events that led to author Jude Addo’s proposal to his wife, the novel “Good Things Happen In Glasgow” was created.
This amusing, insightful and heartfelt memoir, marketed by Aquabooks Ltd, tells the author’s not-so-ordinary love story as it reflects on his trials and triumphs of love, purpose and destiny.
Addo shares his and his wife’s experiences before the proposal: the extreme difficulty getting approval from family and friends, primarily due to disparity in nationality and culture.
He pens their story with an incredibly personal and tremendously candid viewpoint, littered with self-deprecating humor from page to page. The intimacy of the account is bound to grab readers’ attention and take them on a journey of enlightenment.
“It is a book that speaks to every stage that relationships go through: from friendship, to a meaningful relationship, engagement, and then marriage,” the author explains, “this book will appeal to readers because it candidly addresses the benign prejudices that dating couples with differing cultures still face in 21st century Africa, whilst showcasing the perseverance of true love through difficult circumstances.”
The official book launch, held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, attracted a crowd of over 500 people including dignitaries, business leaders, political figures, and entertainers. The aim of the story, as told by a young African author, is to bridge the cultural divide and dissuade the bigotry that has held Africa back for decades.
The cocktail event, sponsored by London based publishing house Aquabooks, seeks to promote African arts, culture, literature, and youth empowerment. “Young Africans can bring significant change to the continent”, says author and founder of Aquabooks, Jude Addo, who doubles as a corporate banker based in London.
“Good Things Happen in Glasgow” has been reviewed by several book critics in London, Accra, and New York and has received overwhelming praise for its thought leadership, candour, and wit. Donald Boyd, renowned Scottish filmmaker and Governor of the London Film School remarked “I love this charming book”.
The book is available online and in major bookstores in Accra, including Silverbird Lifestyle Store, EPP Bookshop, Action Chapel Bookshop, and retails at 50GHC only.
