“I’m honoured to be CAF African Footballer of the year” – Salah

GNA – Mohamed Salah, Egyptian and Liverpool forward has said, he is proud and honoured, to be voted as the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) African Footballer of the Year.

“It was not obvious, for the first time, I was told that it was not going to happen and it’s done and this year, we had to confirm and that’s good,” he said in an interview with the media after the awards ceremony.

Salah, CAF African Player of the Year for the second time in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday.

The sensational attacker, saw off competition from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sadio Mane to win the title, at an awards gala held in Dakar, Senegal.

Salah, scored 44 times in all competitions, last season and has 16 goals to his name, so far in this years campaign.

On the other hand, Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa and Houston Dash striker was adjudged the Women’s Player of the Year, after she saw off competition from Nigerian duo Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega.

The 22-year-old had a superb 2018, after she led the Bayana Bayana to the finals of the African Women Cup of Nations, where they lost on penalties to Nigeria.

“I will say all my pride to have won these two titles, the title of the best goal is very remarkable. It is a great honour and a great pride,” Kgatlana said after receiving the award.

She added, “these two titles belong to all colleagues and coaches fighting for the promotion of women’s football in South Africa.

The men’s team of Mauritania won the Men’s National Team of the Year while the Super Falcons of Nigeria were declared the best female team on the continent.
