It’s an Accra DJ Awards again!
The 2016 nominees list for the Ghana DJ Awards is out and quite characteristic of most awards schemes in Ghana, it looks like an Accra DJ Awards!!!
This gets me irked and wonder if the beautiful art of disc jockeying has been perfected only by individuals within the two big cities of Ghana, that is Accra and Kumasi.
What happened to the great personalities who entertain and thrill listeners and event goers in the 8 other regions of Ghana or perhaps their skills are never close to those resident in Accra and Kumasi.
With majority of nominees for the 2016 Ghana DJ Awards plying their art in the national capital, one can only wonder if the list is indeed a fair representation of what really happens on the ground. I’m not by this saying organizers must nominate people from each region JUST to make it a fair representation.
Nope!! This might NEVER happen unless of course there are new categories to represent each region.
In short, the list of nominees only suggests that none of the DJs outside Accra and a handful in Kumasi (who are repeatedly nominated except DJ Kaxtro) come closer to the quality the ‘board’ looks out for.
I’m sorry but this should not be happening to a sect of people who have continuously cried for not being recognized at the Ghana Music Awards. The idea of a Ghana DJ Awards remains amazing and if it must be done, it must be done well.
I’m pretty sure, the defence will be, ‘We opened nominations to all and asked people to nominate’ but I can state on authority that neither DJ Black nor Andy Dosty submitted their works for nomination.
Lest I forget, how could some people be nominated when in fact, they only present their shows and have DJs play for them? Well…
This however must not to take anything away from the nominees. The ‘board’ think you all deserve it.
Congratulations
Let the public campaign for votes begin.
