KATH baby theft: Workers adamant to resume work after attack
The management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) say they are finding it difficult to bring back the health officials who fled the hospital when the some irate youth beseeched the premises demanding the body of the missing dead baby.
According to the Public Relations Officer of KATH, Kwame Frimpong, the Doctors and nurses are demanding the tightening of security on the hospital premises before they resume work.
“Most of the staff fled in the cause of the attack and as at now, we are having difficulty bringing them back because they say they cannot work in the atmosphere of insecurity,” he stated.
On Thursday, some irate youth stormed the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and beat up some hospital staff in a bid to retrieve the body of a missing baby who died at the hospital last week.
The baby was pronounced dead shortly after delivery but the body has since not been handed over to the family.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command took over the investigation of the matter and according to KATH management; they have so far cooperated with the Police to locate the where about of the baby’s corpse.
In an interview on Eyewitness News, Mr. Frimpong mentioned that the Police will be in the best position to reveal the extent to which investigation have reached.
He also disclosed that the hospital management has held series of meetings with “the leadership of Directorate, we’ve also made some arrangements with the Regional Police Command and they’ve brought some men” to provide security at the hospital premises.
Mr. Frimpong was hopeful that with the improved security, “the staff members will be convinced to come back to work.”
