Kuffour slams Grant after Afcon disappointment
The former Black Stars defender wants the Israeli coach to be relieved of his position after failing to win the Afcon title
Sammy Osei Kuffour has launched a scathing attack at Black Stars coach Avram Grant following Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to Cameroon in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday.
The former Bayern Munich star claims Grant only enjoys travelling around the globe with the motive of scouting players without a scheme for local football.
The Black Stars were in high hopes to end a 35-year trophy drought after reaching the semi-finals for a sixth time in a row, but two second-half goals from Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Christian Bassog ended their aspirations
”I’m really pissed. Avram Grant must go, he must be sacked. He spends all his time outside the country and does not develop any local talent,” Kuffour said on Supersport TV.
“Ghana football is in crises and I’m worried about the youth. Grant has no interest in the local football. He doesn’t watch the Ghana Premier League and prefers to live in England most often. He has not developed any player from the local scene and to me, Ghana football is dying. It has no structures especially the grassroots. The FA is just gambling with players and so a lot must change,” he added.
The Black Stars will face Burkina Faso in a third-place playoff on Saturday.
