LEG and GII Stage Workshop for Asutifi North District Stakeholders
A day workshop has been staged for all stakeholders of the Asutifi North District Assembly by the Livelihood Environment Ghana(LEG) and the Ghana Integrity Initiative(GII) on the measures to get the required royalties from Newmont Ahafo Company.
The programme which was attended by the District Executives,Leaders of Traditional Councils,Executives from LEG AND GII, the Brong Ahafo Regional Stool Land Boss,Assemblymen and the Media under the theme “freezing Local Revenue to Stabilize Foreign Mining Companies” was staged at the conference hall of the district in the capital Kenyasi.
Executives of both LEG and GII took time to present the various measures that are designed by them as to how all districts where gold and other natural minerals are extracted can use to get the needed revenues from the mining companies like Newmont company for development.
Again, it was brought to bear how the mining companies in the country are not being fair in terms of revenue payment to the assemblies for years.
Participants were allowed to ask questions and make recommendations to improve the situation.
The District Chief Executive of the district,Hon. Anthony Adjei Mensah applauded the LEG and GII for the bold initiative because the revenue given the District is below belt and has made development stagnant. He said it will really help the district so all must embrace the measures.
The DCE officially launched a book containing the measures designed to get the required royalties from Newmont Ahafo Company. The Executives of GII and LEG said the contribution made by the participants will be added to the measures which is subjected to amendment every five years.
