Men, Join Your Women To The Labour Ward – Kofi Adams
Fathers and husbands have been advised to accompany their pregnant women to the hospital especially when they are going to give birth.
This follows recent cases of baby thievery in some of the hospitals in the country as well as the brouhaha surrounding a missing stillborn baby at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Speaking on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, spokesperson of former President Jerry John Rawlings, Kofi Adams advised the men to be at the labour ward or close by when their wives are in labour; to monitor everything that goes on. This according to him will avoid baby theft or exchange of babies.
“You have the right to be part of the delivery. Keep a certain distant and keep watch. This can help to reduce issues like this. They deserve to know what happened as far as delivery; mother and child are concerned”.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has ordered the board, the management and the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to, within 14 days, account for five stillborns delivered on February 5, 2014.
The ministry has also ordered the doctor and the midwife who were on duty when the stillborn baby got missing to proceed on leave.
