Miss Ghana Audition Goes To The North By Popular Request.
Out of about 30 belles who have been crowned Miss Ghana or represented Ghana at the Miss World pageant from 1957 to date, seven of them were natives of northern Ghana, thus Northern, Upper East and West Regions.
These included Jamilla Haruna, who, though did not win the Miss Ghana crown, was selected to represent the country at the 1990 Miss World event. Others were Sheila Azuntaba (1996), Mariam Sugru Bugri (1999), Shaida Buari (2002), Inna Mariam Patty (2004), Lamisi Mbillah (2005) and Mimi Areme (2009).
It is, therefore, quite obvious that northern Ghana has a lot to offer when it comes to the Miss Ghana beauty pageant.
However, when the audition venues for this year’s Miss Ghana pageant were recently announced, northern Ghana was conspicuously missing as the organisers decided on Accra and Takoradi, representing the southern and middle belts of the country.
But by popular request, Exclusive Events Limited, the planners of the pageant, have extended the search for Miss Ghana 2015 to the north to bring the scouting spots to three.
Beauties in the Northern, Upper East and West regions, who are eyeing the 2015 crown, have thus been saved the long journey to Accra and Takoradi for auditioning.
They can now report at the Global Dream Serviced Apartments in Tamale on Wednesday, September 2, 8:00am to 5:00pm for what the organisers described as “an opportunity to be part of the most prestigious pageant in Ghana”.
Auditioning for Takoradi will be held on Friday, August 28, at the Best Western Atlantic Hotel while the Holiday Inn in Accra will host the final session on Tuesday, September 8.
Former Miss Ghana queen and Managing Director of Exclusive Events Limited, Ms Inna Patty told Showbiz her company had wished to throw the searchlight on all 10 Regions of the country but financial and logistical constraints made it impossible.
“However, we are happy to have managed to add Tamale to the audition venues, which means that interested ladies all over the country can easily meet the scouting team on the audition dates,” Ms Patty said.
“Hopefully, we will take the pageant to all the 10 regions when we receive adequate support,” she assured patrons of the event.
She urged individuals, organisations and corporate Ghana to support the Miss Ghana pageant to provide the platform for young, bold, beautiful and intelligent Ghanaian ladies to shape their dreams of making a difference in society.
The winner of this year’s contest will drive home a brand new Citroen C4 Aircross, while the first and second runners-up receive a saloon car each to be used for their projects during their one year reign as “next best queens”.
This year’s event is sponsored by Manet Properties, Citroen by CFAO, LAWASH, IPMC, Holiday Inn, Best Wetsern Atlantic Hotel, Takoradi and Unique Floral.
Others are Imperial General Assurance, FC Skin and Beauty Klinik and Pippas Health Centre, with support from Special Ice Mineral Water, Frytol and Forever Easy.
