MTTU to arrest commercial drivers under 25-years
The Motor Traffic and Transport Department has announced that it will start enforcing the Legislative Instrument that prohibits persons under 25-years from driving commercial vehicles.
The law which has been passed since 2005, has not been adhered to.
But the MTTD wants to revisit it to ensure sanity on the roads.
Offenders could attract a jail term as punishment.
Head of Education, Training and Research at the MTTD, DSP Alexander Obeng told XYZ News commercial vehicle owners must ensure they give their vehicles to eligible drivers.
Meanwhile, chairman of the committed Taxi drivers association of Ghana, Charles Danso has asked the MTTD to revise the law.
He said many commercial drivers especially taxi cab drivers fall below the 25 year limit.
“If they don’t revise the law a lot more of my colleagues will become jobless and that will just bring us more troubles. Already the economy is not favoring anyone”
