Muntari Gives Money To Poor Communities In Brazil

Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari, has become a very popular figure in north eastern Brazil after handing out cash to poor communities from the city of Maceio.

The AC Milan star was reported to have carried a waddle of money, giving families between R$100 and R$350 (Reais) = R450 to R1575), before local police apparently stopped his acts of generosity. “It’s unforgettable,” recipient Edivaldo told Globo.com. “I’ve lived in this poor community behind the Rei Pele Stadium for forty years but have never seen anything like this before. Not once has a soccer player come here. Brazil never gave me anything but Ghana did. I will support them up to the end.”

Another happy person, Inês Corrêa, who saw a group of police officers and went to investigate, still can’t believe her luck. “What a good person!” she said. “That’s when I discovered it was a player from Ghana. My 80-year-old mother and I received R$ 350 (Reais). I believe that he had R$5 000 but unfortunately the police put an end to his good work. In this area we only see politicians at election time.”
