Old Meets New – Sarkodie hits studio with highlife legend Nana Ampadu
Two outstanding personalities from two distinct eras of Ghanaian popular music are set to merge abilities as highlife giant, Nana Kwame Ampadu and rapper, Sarkodie go into the studio to collaborate on some new songs written by Nana Ampadu.
The highlife stalwart is getting ready for a big splash at the National Theatre on December 27 to mark 50 years since he took to show business.
He is said to have written over 800 songs in his music career and he told journalists at a press brief briefing last Monday at the Movenpick hotel in Accra that he had prepared some songs specifically for the partnership with Sarkodie.
The admired rapper is also looking for new frontiers to conquer after collaborating with a legion of artistes already.
According to his manager, Sammy Forson, the gifted rapper admires Nana Ampadu and is eager to work with him.
“Everybody knows Nana Ampadu and the role he has played in the development of our music so a young artiste like Sarkodie would not want to miss an opportunity to work with him,” Forson said.
Nana Ampadu is a great story-teller and many of the musicians he tutored in his African Brothers International Band moved on to their own glittering careers.
He very much represents what can be described as the ‘old school’ of music here while Sarkodie boldly stands out as an embodiment of the current generation of performers.
