Orphanages in Brong-Ahafo advocate for policy framework

GNA – Managers of Orphanages and Children’s Homes in the Brong-Ahafo Region have advocated for a realistic national policy guideline to facilitate their establishment and enhance the socio-economic well-being of inmates.

They said the poor socio-economic condition of most of the homes made the inmates to feel marginalised and neglected, a situation which affected their proper upbringing and development.

The managers made the call at a Christmas party at Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.

It was organised by the One in Christ Ministries Church for about 200 inmates from four orphanages and homes in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

Other orphanages that participated were Mumslove at Duayaw-Nkwanta, the Hannuka in Sunyani, Alafya at Abesim and the Compassion Is Love In Action at Yawhima in the Sunyani Municipality.

Mr Imoro Adams, the Founder of Mumslove Orphanage, on behalf of the other managers, underlined the need for policy makers to factor the plight of orphans in the national decision-making processes.

He observed that vulnerable children could be trained to become responsible adults if their upbringing and development were guided by solid policy framework.

Mr Adams said because there was no realistic policy direction towards the establishment of orphanages and SOS homes, conditions in most of the homes rather tended to harden the inmates.

Bishop Nana Kojo Obiri-Yeboah, the Head of the One in Christ Ministries, urged wealthy citizens, philanthropists and religious bodies to support the upbringing and development of the under-privileged children in society.

He presented items including bags of rice, cooking oil, used clothing, footwear, biscuits, non-alcoholic beverages, toiletries and other consumables to the orphanages and homes for the upkeep of the inmates.
