A British man walked right up to the EgyptAir hijacker while being held hostage on Tuesday and asked him a simple question: Wanna take a picture?
And instead of saying no, the lovelorn lunatic happily obliged!
“You know your boy doesn’t f*** about,” Ben Innes told his friends in a series of text messages accompanied by the now-viral pic, which shows the Leeds health and safety worker grinning from ear-to-ear as he stands alongside alleged hijacker Seif El Din Mustafa.
“Turn on the news lad!” he urged to one of his pals, who then replied, “Wtf? Is that a bomb attached to the guys chest? You ok? Let us know when you get off.”
While it was later revealed that Mustafa, who was allegedly trying to deliver a letter to his ex-wife in Cyprus, had been wearing a phony suicide vest, friends and family said Innes, 26, likely thought it was real — and didn’t care.
“I imagine he probably volunteered to take it as he’s no afraid to shy away from anything,” his roommate told the Daily Mail.
Another friend told the Telegraph that the photo was “totally in character for him.”
“Ben is a wild man,” they said. “He was a big rugby guy and very into his banter and didn’t have much respect for authority.”
But his mom, on the other hand, said the photo had her worried sick.
“We don’t really want to comment on what has happened until he’s home and we know he’s safe and well,” Pauline Innes said.
She added that despite reports, the photo was not a selfie.
“All we can say is that the picture is clearly not a selfie as everyone has been describing it,” Mrs. Innes explained. “You can clearly see that it is not Ben who is taking the picture. He’s in it but he’s not taking it.”
