Shatta Wale used BASS Awards to re-launch his music career – Organizers
Rackus Production, organizers of the BASS Awards, which honours reggae and dancehall genres in Ghana, has taken credit for reviving the career of dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.
Gabriel Boateng, Communications Manager for Rackus Production told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that his outfit’s Nominees Jam at the Accra Sports Stadium on May 5, 2013 was the launch pad for Shatta Wale’s come back after a long hiatus.
“We got artistes re-launching their career on our stage because Shatta Wale took that opportunity to re-launch his career,” he said and insisted that contrary to reports, the dancehall artiste didn’t bounce back through his beef with the 2013 Ghana Music Awards.
According to him, “Everyone who know Shatta Wale and follows his performance will tell you that was the biggest stage he was performing on after ten years. Half of his performances back then were” limited to small audiences in some corners of Accra “but this time he got the opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people at our Nominees Jam.”
“That’s where I would say Shatta Wale actually took Ghana by storm and regained his position as a main stream artiste in Ghana again,” Gabriel Boateng noted.
Although Shatta Wale rocked last year’s Nominees Jam, he did not receive a single nomination in the awards.
However, he has been nominated in six categories for this year’s awards. Namely, ‘Artiste of the Year (Kwame Nkrumah Award)’; ‘Dancehall Artiste of the Year’; ‘Dancehall Song of the Year’; ‘Best Collaboration (Dancehall)’, ‘Music Video of the Year (Dancehall)’, and ‘Best Performer’.
The nominees for this year’s awards were released last week and the main awards comes off on Saturday, August 30 2014.
