Update on collapsed uncompleted hotel: one rescued as rescue officer collapse
One of five trapped under the rabble of an uncompleted hotel at Accra has been rescued. A member of the rescue team has also has been rushed to the hospital after he collapsed at the scene.
The Inspector-General of Police Alhassan Mohammed, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command and over a dozen security chiefs have swarmed the site where 5 persons are trapped under the rabble of a collapsed six-storey uncompleted hotel in Accra.
The uncompleted structure located at Nii Boi Town, near Abeka Lapaz in Accra, fell off the skyline for reasons yet to be established.
Although details are sketchy, two of the five persons trapped under the magnificent rubble having been communicating via mobile phones with a rescue team composing of the Fire Service, Police and Ambulance Service.
Police at the scene have cordoned off the area and an excavator has arrived at the site to help with rescue efforts.
The MP for Okaikwei North Elizabeth Sackey and Accra Metropolitan Assembly boss,Alfred Oko Vanderpuije having been familiarising themselves with the extent of the damage.
No deaths have been confirmed.
An eyewitness told Joy News’ Beatrice Adu the incident happened after 4:00am Thursday morning. The eyewitness recounted, prior to the collapse, he saw a man come out of the hotel to brush his teeth. He watched in shock as the building collapsed right under his eyes.
Mr. Omare, the owner of the uncompleted hotel also owns another, Grand View Hotel, which stood unaffected,next to his shocking pile of rabble.
