VGMA NOT FAIR GOSPEL MUSIC – OJ
The may3 s3 mo p3n hit maker and the Gospel Song of the year winner at the just ended VGMA 2014 (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards) in an interview on Anapua 105.1 FM in Kenyasi, Brong Ahafo stated that in his opinion the organizers of the music Awards in Ghana have not been fair to the gospel musicians.
His reason being that the categories for gospel nominees were extremely minimal and that there was a need to extend the number of slots being given to gospel musicians. In his words to whom much is given, much is certainly expected and thus being that gospel music helps to promote Ghanaian culture and change people’s life over the years, there was a need for this genre of music to be given much more respect.
“May be they need to explain to us that the award is for circular musicians, else we are being cheated. Gospel music has many types like the contemporary musician like Kwesi Oteng, Sonny Badu and the rest, We also have praises and worship song but yet they don’t make them feel relevant” OJ said on Anapua 105.1 FM’s Infotainment Show.
He also lamented that he did not see any reason why the Gospel Album of the Year should be given as an Industry Award (i.e. voted by industry professionals without public voting) while as the Gospel Song of the year was not. Many people don’t hear of it due to limited artiste there he went on to say.” it wouldn’t be bad if it push to the main event”.
