What I Took From AMERI Deal Was Meagre – Ibrahim Mahama.
The.has disclosed that he agreed to prepare the site for the
Ameri power turbines despite receiving what he describe as a meager amount in order to save the his brother’s image.
Prior to the arrival of the ten turbines by AMERI, the Ministry of Power contracted Ibrahim’s company, E&P to prepare the grounds to host the ten turbines at Aboadze in the Western Region.
In an exclusive interview with Citi News, Ibrahim Mahama said he was only paid GHc25 million, which according to him, the country would have paid more if a foreign company was contracted.
He claimed that no contractor would have settled for such an amount taking into consideration the huge work load.
“The determination of doing that job is to save my brother’s name. If I hadn’t done it no contractor would have done it,” he emphasized.
He said it took him about three months to complete the project.
The AMERI deal has come under intense public backlash after a Norwegian Newspaper VG reported that Ghana might have been short-changed in the deal.
They claimed that government is being made to pay for almost about twice the amount more than the total value of the turbines in the market costing Ghana about $510 million.
Following the report, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) had accuse Ibrahim Mahama of “benefiting” unduly from the deal, a claim he discounted.
He said, the amount paid him was by government, as he was contracted by the Volta River Authority (VRA) and not the AMERI.
