Zen Petroleum supports victims of gas explosion
GNA – The management of Zen Petroleum Limited on Friday donated medical items worth GH¢11,000.00 to four hospitals caring for victims of the recent gas explosion at GHUMCO Aluminium works in Sekondi.
The company also gave a cheque for GH¢5,000.00 to the Regional Fire Service for the care of personnel who sustained injuries in the course of duty.
The management led by Mr Kwabena Ampong, commercial manager and Nicholas De-heer Corporate Affairs Manager, visited the GNFS office where the team was informed that all the officers affected in the explosion were responding to treatment.
Mr De-heer said the company was moved to support the victims in their bid to restore hope to the injured.
He said although this was an accident, there is the need for the public and industries to adopt appropriate safety measures.
At the Effia Nkwanta Hospital, Dr Richard Anthony, who expressed gratitude to the company for the gesture, said currently most of the victims have been discharged adding “we are now at the mop up stage”.
He said four people who initially did not report at the facility were now on admission for medical care and this has increased the admission figure from 15 to 19.
Dr Vitus Anaab, Head of Health Services at GAPOHA Hospital, also expressed gratitude for the donation saying lots of resources and logistics had been utilised in handling the emergency case.
A similar donation was made at the former European Hospital which was received by Mr Nurudeen Jamio, the administrator of the facility.
All the facilities were given antiseptic, gauzes, bandages, gloves, boxes of bottled water among others.
Zen petroleum is a oil marketing company supplying oil and lubricants to the mining sector.
