Money is no object when the son of an oligarch marries the love of his life.
Even the rock-bottom price of oil couldn’t stop Mikhail Gutseriev splashing out for his son Said, with Jennifer Lopez, Enrique Iglesias and Sting providing the entertainment at their lavish Moscow reception.
Gutseriev, 28, married 20-year-old student Khadija Uzhakhova on Saturday in a ceremony rumoured to have cost $1 billion (£700m) *(approx 3.8 billion new Ghana cedis)
Wedding guests posted numerous videos and photographs of the performances on Instagram, along with pictures of the extravagant floral displays that seemed to cover every inch of the walls and canopies.
The celebrations included fireworks and a nine-tiered wedding cake.
According to ContactMusic, Lopez made at least three costume changes during her performance, which included some of biggest hits including On the Floor, Dance Again and Get Right
In one Instagram video, she congratulates the newlyweds, admitting that correctly pronouncing their names was “the hardest thing I had to do today”.
Some reports suggested Elton John also performed, although he was not to be spotted in the Instagram pictures.
The bride wore a custom-beaded Elie Saab gown, which can cost up to £18,000
It was reportedly imported from Paris and weighed 25lb because of the massive train and beadwork. It all meant the poor bride needed help to walk up stairs.
According to Forbes, the groom’s father is worth $6.2 billion.
Mikhail Gutseriev made his money as a pioneer in private banking after the collapse of communism but also owns several energy companies. In recent years he has bought up property and media companies during Russia’s economic downturn.
His son was educated in Britain, first at Harrow and then the University of Oxford where he read archaeology and geology.
After completing a masters degree at the University of Plymouth, he returned to Russia to join the family business.
