What’s The Wisdom In Sports Ministry Sending Ambassadors To Brazil…It’s Nonsense!!! – NDC Communicator
A member of the Government’s Communications Team, Samuel George Nettey has questioned the wisdom behind the Sports Ministry’s selection of certain “Ambassadors” for this year’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports on Thursday, May 8, 2014 announced a number of musicians, actors and veteran footballers as Ghana’s official Ambassadors for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The list includes Becca, John Dumelo, Jackie Appiah, Grace Ashy CK Akonnor, Tony Baffoe, Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew, Kwame Ayew, Augustine Ahinful, Samuel Osei Kufour, Tony Yeboah, Azumah Nelson and Ali Jarrah, Shatta Wale among others.
The Sector Minister, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah charged the ambassadors to project the culture and values of Ghana on the World map.
But the selection of these ambassadors aroused some concerns as several Ghanaians called on the Sports Ministry to cite the reasons and criteria it used to appoint these personalities.
Speaking on Radio Gold‘s “Alhaji and Alhaji” programme, the NDC Communicator called for a probe into Hon. Afriyie Ankrah’s choice of ambassadors for the national team. According to him, it is a complete waste of resources for the nation to appoint such number of people, particularly actors who do not play key roles in the Black Stars.
To him, it is a misplaced priority on the part of the Sports Ministry to treat these personalities to a first-class air lift to Brazil just to perform to the amusement of the players.
“I still cannot understand what thinking went into sending so-called Ambassadors from this country with our taxpayer’s money or whether it is sponsorship from anywhere. Are they the ones going to play the football? Then the US must as well send Denzel Washington and Oprah Winfrey with the US team to beat the Black Stars…
“It must be stopped. It’s nonsense,” he bellowed.
