Expected Taxes due to District are not received – Budget Analyst
The Budget Analyst of Asutifi North District Assembly has disclosed that taxes expected to come to the District from the people are not realized.
Speaking exclusively to the News Editor of Anapua radio 105.1 at Kenyasi in Brong Ahafo region, Daniel Owusu ,said, most people in the district do not pay their mandated taxes as expected and it is affecting the district in all aspects especially in development.
He narrated, much education (including radio programmes) is given to the residents as to how to pay their taxes and the importance of tax paying but this goes unheeded.
He added that most people politicised issues when it comes to tax paying. Some saying that once their political party is in power ;there is nothing like paying taxes. Others complain about the lack of jobs or their dissatisfaction about earned salary thus the reason for not paying taxes.
Daniel Owusu added that the Assembly was still taking defaulters to court but that it was strictly up to the courts to determine a sentence or punishment for such offenders.
Daniel Owusu ended by saying that often people compare Ghana to other Western countries in terms of development but the same person refuse to pay taxes which is a worry to him (as these paid taxes are a critical foundation for development)
