Unpaid contractor causes £ 425,000 (GHS3.5 million) worth of damages to apartment building [Video Inside]
Germany- An excavator driver in Blumberg caused quite a stir on Wednesday evening when he dismantled a new apartment building in Vogtgasse. The police estimate that he caused property damage of around half a million euros.
Blumberg – At around 7.30 p.m., the 47-year-old building contractor destroyed large parts of a new building complex comprising around 30 residential units with the help of a chain-driven excavator by tearing down balconies with the work machine and massively working on the building facade all around. In the process, the man also damaged the associated garages on which there were several gas bottles.
The police cordoned off a large area of ??the area because damage to the gas containers could not be ruled out. There were no people in the building, but the action attracted around 50 onlookers.
After the destruction, the man got in his car and drove away, but turned himself in to the police shortly afterwards. As the reason for the massive destruction, the entrepreneur claimed outstanding payments which, in his opinion, were wrongly withheld from him.
In Blumberg it is said that the man is a subcontractor of the developer and has five million euros in outstanding debts that the developer is said not to have paid. The 47-year-old is said to have obtained the excavator specifically for his destruction campaign. Eyewitnesses report that he only stopped the demolition because the hydraulic hose broke.
