First Ever South African Wine Festival in Ghana
Ghana is one of three countries in Africa selected to witness the first ever South African Wine Festival in May this year.
The event, the brainchild of five friends – Thomas Msengana, Unathi Msengana, Colene Arendse, Dineo Mahloele and Fracky Adjobi-Atubu, is expected to be a premium avenue for the exhibition of a wide range of South Africa’s finest wine brands from vineyards in Cape Town.
Backed by exciting musical performances and the best food that Ghana has to offer, the South African Wine Festival will thrill the country’s capital from May 30 to May 31, after work, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel.
Thomas Msengana, Event Coordinator told Myjoyonline.com in an interview that, “We’ve heard that Ghana loves wine. You like the wine from France, Chile or Argentina,” and Ghanaians only know of a few South African wine brands.
He observed that, “Firstly, there is so much between us as African people so why are we going that side. Let’s meet among ourselves and learn about each other. So Cape Town you known worldwide they’ve got the best wine so we thought let’s take the wine from Cape Town, bring it through [to Ghana]”
Performances during the event will be from South African Music Awards winning soul musician, Unathi, and a yet to be named Ghanaian musician.
Thomas Msengana, who is also a renowned radio personality with 5FM, Johannesburg, stressed that the event offers a unique opportunity for people to enjoy good wine, “meet people, socialize and network. There are a lot of opportunities so far as you know who to talk to.”
The South African Wine Festival, which is going to be an annual event, will also be held in Côte d’Ivoire, and then the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).
