Afia Konadu Thought Me – Nana Yaa Brefo
There is a saying that no matter how good you may be, you cannot know it all. There comes a day when you will be taught by someone. The very outspoken and also popular Multimedia television host (Nana Yaa Brefo) in an interview on Anapua’s Infotainment show was asked about her making a statement to the effect ‘’I want to be Oprah Winfrey in Ghana”.
She admitted saying this, but stated that it was made long time ago when she was seeking employment at the Multimedia Group, and she was asked whom she looked up to. Oprah Winfrey was the first thing that came to mind she added.
Asked by the Infotainment host, Kwaku B, why she selected Oprah in particular and not someone of African descent, let alone of her home country origin, Nana Yaa admitted that thought there were many talented local female media stars such as Maame Dokono, Gifty Ante and her own mentor Afia Konadu (Multimedia Group), Oprah was in a league of her own as she had conquered the U.S.A and the world for that matter through her television show. Oprah Winfrey, she went on to say was even a role model to her competitors in the U.S.A market. This is a woman all can learn something from in essence. Nana Yaa noted that her mentor and colleague at Multimedia Group also aided her greatly in her becoming more knowledgeable and fluent in the the local Twi dialect as she was more proficient in Fante dialect rather.
The “speak your mind lady” as she is known on her Adom TV show, BADWAM, said that she is praying that God blesses her in abundance in terms of finances so she could begin her own charity work and also to launch her own television show named “The Nana Yaa’s Show” similar to that of her idol Oprah Winfrey. Be on the look for this young talent’s show in the near future folks!
