AngloGold Ashanti provides health care for host community

New Tokunaso (W/R), Jan 31, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem (AAI) Mine, has provided free medical screening and treatment for one of its host communities New Tokunaso in the Prestea Huni/Valley District in the Western Region.
The residents, who turned out in their numbers by 0830 hours, gathered at the New Tokunaso community center to participate in the exercise.
They were screened for malaria, hypertension, diabetes and other primary care diseases by a team of medical officers from AAI Mine Hospital and the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipal Health Directorate.
Mrs Cynthia Odoom-Wilson, a physician assistant and senior health nurse at AAI, who led the team said about 700 people benefited from the free medication and consultation.
She added that those identified with special cases were also referred to the old Government Hospital and Municipal Hospital in Tarkwa for further treatment.
Mrs Odoom-Wilson explained that the quarterly medical outreach programme was initiated by AAI Mine as part of its social responsibility to bring health care to the doorsteps of its people.
The Physician Assistant said AAI would continue to play its social role in elevating the welfare of those living in their catchment area.
Most of the residents who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed appreciation to the management of AAI Mine for continuously bringing health closer to them.
