THE GREAT works of former Finance and Economic Planning Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor have touched many lives thereby motivating the Tweneboah Kodua Senior High School in the Sekyere Kumawu district of the Ashanti region to name one of the edifices after the illustrious son of Ghana.Dr. Duffuor’s contribution to infrastructural development in the school, including renovation of structures touched many who could not hide their admiration for the former Finance and Economic Planning Minister.
The school named one of its buildings after him when he handed over a renovated building to the school authorities and further admonished both teachers and students to make good use of the building for a better future.
In a brief remark, Dr. Duffuor noted that education is the surest way to prosperity and therefore advised the students to be obedient to the teachers and justify the investment made in them.
He further admonished students in the district to make learning a priority and avoid engaging in activities that could distract them from their studies.
In a related development, Dr. Duffuor, addressing shareholders of the Kumawuman Rural Bank at its 21st general meeting said the bank posted a good performance in the 2013 fiscal year despite stiff competition from universal banks and microfinance companies.
The former Finance Minister said the bank continues to post strong financial performance and its income from operations experienced a massive increment.
Dr. Duffuor, who is also the board chairman of the bank gave some key highlights of the bank’s performance as follows: total income from operations grew by 29.17% from GH¢4.922 million in 2012 to GH¢6.358 million in 2013; operation expenses increased by 43.55% from GH¢3.537 million in 2012 to GH¢5.077% in 2013 and profit before tax increased by 14.64% from GH¢836, 847.00 in 2012 to GH¢959, 394.00 in 2013.
The Board Chairman of the bank also commissioned a new head office complex for the bank at Kumawu.
