Four hour clearance at ports on course – Bawumia
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said government is committed to a seamless clearance system for importers at the ports and making every effort for the four hour maximum clearance duration move to be achieved this year.
“Let’s at least have our goal that by the end of the year, this maximum of four hours for clearing containers will be a reality,” he said at a meeting with the committee tasked to ensure port reforms on Wednesday, August 2 2017.
Dr Bawumia said government is hoping by September 1 this year, the port systems will become fully automated and “we expect to see major efficiency starting September…and more efficiency measures will be adopted” with time.
He said import agencies not ready to go paperless by September would not be allocated any cargo so all stakeholders must implement measures in conformity to government’s move to improve port efficiency for the benefit of all.
