My husband beat me even after I paid for his prostitutes – Afia Schwarzenegger alleges
Television personality Afia Schwarzenegger has shed more light on what she says was an extremely abusive relationship with her husband.
Schwarzenegger who launched her Leave2Live Foundation on February 14 said she experienced torture during her six month marriage to Lawrence Abrokwa.
The comedienne in her speech at the launch revealed that she suffered physical, emotional, financial and other kinds of abuse during her marriage.
According to her, she never thought she was in an abusive relationship because she was blinded by love.
Valentina Nana Akua Agyeiwaa as she is known privately further disclosed that she used to console herself that her ex-husband’s unemployment was the cause of the abuse so things would get better when he finds a job but that never happened. She stated without mincing words that: “I loved my abuser”.
The controversial radio and TV presenter who turned 35 on Val’s Day later revealed that her ex-hubby brought prostitutes to her matrimonial home when she was away. She shockingly alleged that she paid for the sex workers her ex-husband slept with in her house.
The mother of three added that she was battered anytime she protested against her husband’s sexual encounter with prostitutes in her house.
She further disclosed that pastors and other respected personalities in the society always begged her to stay in the abusive marriage anytime she decided to walk out.
The Leave2Live Foundation is aimed at fighting domestic violence in Ghana.
