Police to undertake major exercise soon – Head of Kenyasi Police Division
The Head of Kenyasi Police Division in the Brong Ahafo region has today revealed that very soon his department would undertake two major exercises in Kenyasi, the capital of Asutifi North District.
According to Chief Inspector Akowuah Sankara in an interview via telephone from his office, the police will soon arrest all under aged persons who use motorbikes for commercial (okada) means as well as the owners of the said arrested bikes.
He explained that per the laws of Ghana, persons under 18 years are not permitted to trade but rather they are to be in school.
He disclosed that it was becoming an eyesore for the town to see more children engaging in the okada business and such action is not speaking well about the district.
Aside this, the underage persons are deforming and killing people by knocking them on daily basis due to their inexperience and unnecessary speed in the township.
Chief Inspector Sankara added, after apprehending the children the next are the said owners of the motorbikes.
He said the the exercise will commence next week.
The second exercise is the police arresting all underage persons who are in streets from 11pm onward. This is as a means to curb the rising crime rate in the district.
The police has consulted with the Chiefs for the exercise and their approval has been granted.
He said the parents will be invited to the charge office to explain why their wards are on the streets at such time. Punishment will follow if no tangible reasons are given by them.
Chief Inspector Sankara concluded by warning Opinion leaders and Politicians to desist from pleading for arrested persons and allow the law to work as expected to make the area the best.
