At the sidelines of the VGMAs Nominees Jam held at the Northern regional capital, Tamale, Raphius was beaming with joy over the Ghana Music Awards nomination of his collaborative song with George Cliff of Tamale titled Female Genital Mutilation. He was positive about winning the award notwithstanding the competitiveness of the category the song found itself in.
The Female Genital Mutilation advocacy song has been nominated in the Music for Development category alongside Kwabena Kwabena, Gasmilla, Diamond, DKD, Joey B and M.anifest.
Raphius Amigos, a household name in the Upper West regional capital, Wa thanked his fans for their ever growing support and prayers. “I thank God almighty for this accomplishment. As Theresa Ayaode said at the Awards Launch, I see myself as a winner already with the nomination.”
“FGM has become a serious human rights issue in Ghana today and I find it as a professional responsibility to put my artistic prowess together to inform the rest of the country about the act and to solicit the support and action of government and our development partners in ending the practice. The practice is rampant in the Upper West region where I hail from”, says Raphius.
The Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) song basically exposes the dangers associated with the wicked act of FGM and why it should be nipped in the bud. He calls for deliberate policy interventions in this regard.
This is the first time in the history of the Ghana Music Awards that a Wa based musician has been nominated. Raphius therefore confident of annexing the coveted plaque on the awards night in view of the efforts and creativity employed in making the track especially the music video.
Last year, Akoo Nana now known as Nahna walked away with the Music for Development Award with his Ghana Cedi song featuring Castro.
