Wesley Girls Old students provide solar powered boreholes for school

GNA – The 1986 Year Group of Wesley Girls’ High School has constructed four solar powered mechanised boreholes with 50,000 liter reservoir for the school as part of efforts to tackle its water problem.

Additionally, the group had helped to put into good shape three existing boreholes and another 50,000 liter reservoir and connected them to a solar system.

The project, which cost GH¢180,000, was aimed at reducing utility cost of the school and by the gesture the school is now about 70 per cent off the Ghana Water Company’s system.

Mrs Judith Adjobah, the Project Co-ordinator, told the Ghana News Agency that the gesture formed part of the group’s 30th anniversary and also as a way of giving back to their Alma Mater.

She said contributions for the project were sought from various companies and individuals most of whom were 1986-year group members.

The group also offered free medical screening to people in Kakumdo, the community where the school is located, as part of their contribution to efforts at bringing quality health care especially to the poor and the vulnerable.

Ms Adjobah said the people were examined for various diseases including diabetes, hypertension and malaria.

“In addition, we also donated food items, clothes and other hygienic materials to the people. It is all about giving back to the community,” she said.

A mentoring session was also organised for the students where they were taught how to be entrepreneurs after school.
