YEA creates jobs for 6,489 youth in Brong-Ahafo
GNA – A total of 6,489 young people in the Brong-Ahafo Region have been trained by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and now engaged in the public sector.
Mr.Joseph Kwesi Holison, Regional Director of the Agency, who broke the news said the trainees were made up 3,278 males and 3,211 females.
He told a media briefing in Abesim, near Sunyani that those people were working with the security agencies, health service and education
Others were also into coastal sanitation, marine engineering and environmental sanitation, he added.
Mr.Holison indicated that, nationwide, 62,825 youth had been trained by the Agency.
He said the expectation was that in excess of 100,000 young men and women would have jobs by the close of the year.
He stated that the Agency was disability and gender-sensitive, having set up disability and gender units at the various offices across the country.
He said it was refreshing that many physically challenged people had benefited from the programme.
Mr.Holison hinted of the introduction of new training modules and encouraged every unemployed youth to register with the Agency.
He said with the passage of the Youth Employment Agency Act (Act 887) the Agency was now a public service entity and gave the assurance that it would give entrepreneurial skills training to the youth.
