ZEN/NADeF Awards GHC 10.000 to KNUST Student
The Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation, NADeF in partnership with ZEN Petroleum Limited, an oil marketing company, has awarded GHC 10,000.00 worth of scholarship to a third year Business Administration student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Agnes Kodua Tweneboah, for being the best candidate for the ZEN/NADeF Excellence Scholarship Award 2016.
The ZEN/NADeF excellence scholarship award is a partnership between Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADeF) and ZEN Petroleum Ltd. to motivate highly-driven and brilliant undergraduate Business students.
The scholarship which covers academic user fees, accommodation, stipend and allowance for books was presented after careful and rigorous review of all applications received from various brilliant students from the Newmont host communities attending various tertiary institutions with GPA of first and second class upper divisions.
The Corporate Affairs Manager of ZEN Petroleum Limited, Nicholas Augustus de Heer who spoke on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer said, the company which is a business partner of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, initiated the partnership as part of its contribution of giving back to Ahafo mine community through developing young, brilliant but needy students to become successful business magnates in Ghana. He noted that, the award winner should not only see the scholarship as an assistance to complete her education but rather a ladder for her to reach her future goals. He called on her to continue to excel and work assiduously towards contributing her quota to the development of her community as she has the potential to do whatever she sets her mind to.
The Executive Secretary of NADeF, Elizabeth Opoku-Darko expressed happiness about the fact that the maiden award was won by a woman because the benefit of educating a woman has a wider impact on society. She asked the award winner to focus on her career and study hard towards the attainment of her life goals.
She thanked ZEN Petroleum Ltd. for their support towards NADeF Human Resource Development which is also aimed at supporting the Corporate Social Responsibility of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited and appealed to other business partners to emulate ZEN Petroleum Ltd, Liebherr Mining Company and Alexiboam Company Ltd., to push the development Agenda of Ahafo.
Agnes Kodua Twenboah who is the second child of her parents and a native of Wamahinso in the Asutifi North District of the Brong Ahafo Region expressed appreciation for the opportunity given her and promised to live up to expectation. She promised to contribute immensely, to the development of her community.
Also present at the ceremony were the ZEN HSE Manager, Boniface Baah and the Chief of Wamahinso, Nana Adjei Twum II.
