Briefing
Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Yussif Tanko, said the incident occurred at about 6:15 p.m. last Friday on the Mampong-Kofiase road when a gang of five hood-wearing armed robbers blocked the road and robbed a number of passengers of their belongings.
He said the gang stopped a Toyota Hiace bus and used the occupants to block the road. Moments later, a taxicab pulled up but the driver did not heed the robbers’ signal for him to stop.As a result, the taxi ran over some of the passengers who were lying on the road, leading to the death of Abena.
Mr Tanko said the Mampong Highway Patrol team, which was on its usual rounds, appeared on the scene but the robbers opened fire on them, hitting the shoulder of Inspector Francis Ahadzie.
ASP Tanko said the robbers managed to escape arrest initially but three of them had been arrested.
