Anthony Joshua survives horrific car accident in Nigeria where 2 of his friends perish
Tragically, former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal road traffic accident in Nigeria’s Ogun State, along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The crash occurred when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and four other occupants reportedly lost control—possibly due to excessive speed and an overtaking maneuver—before colliding with a stationary truck parked by the side of the road. Initial findings from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) suggest the vehicle was traveling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit, contributing to the devastating loss of life.
The collision resulted in the tragic deaths of two of Joshua’s closest friends and integral team members, Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Latif’ Ayodele, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Ghami served as his strength and conditioning coach, and Ayodele was a personal trainer and close confidant, making their loss deeply felt within the boxing community and Joshua’s inner circle. The two men were confirmed to be passengers in the vehicle with Joshua, who was seated in the rear, as they enjoyed time in his ancestral homeland following his recent knockout victory over Jake Paul.
Despite the horrific nature of the crash, Anthony Joshua and another passenger, reported to be the locally hired driver, survived the incident. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was quickly evacuated to a specialized medical facility in Lagos, where he was confirmed to be in a stable condition and remained under observation. Authorities, including the Ogun State Police Command and the Federal Road Safety Corps, have commenced a thorough investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the accident, while Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu expressed condolences to Joshua and the bereaved families.
