When the government launched the anti-galamsey campaign to protect the country’s natural resources, whose fast depletion was blamed on sophisticated machinery used by illegal foreign miners, not many have bothered to question the origins of the equipment used in disturbing the water beds in the mining areas.

Information available to the Daily Heritage suggest that the hydraulic elevators – the machine used to collect gravel and gold particles from the alluvial beds in the various water bodies in the Western Region – are manufactured by by local artisans in the country.
