AK-47, Drone, and Ammunition Seized: Three Nabbed in Ahafo Over Robbery Plot
GOASO, AHAFO REGION – The Ghana Police Service has arrested three young men in connection with the unlawful possession of firearms and an alleged conspiracy to commit robbery, recovering a cache of weapons including an AK-47 assault rifle, pistols, and over 100 rounds of ammunition.
The suspects—Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba—were taken into custody during separate but coordinated operations on Saturday, February 22, 2026, according to the Ahafo Regional Police Command.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) James Annor, detailed how a routine late-night patrol along the Ayomso-Goaso road led to the breakthrough.
DCOP Annor explained that at approximately 11:30 p.m., a patrol team from the Regional Taskforce observed Mawutor and Ofori riding an unregistered motorbike towards Ayomso, near the regional capital, Goaso.
The Commander stated that the suspects allegedly attempted to evade arrest by switching off the motorcycle’s headlights upon noticing the police presence. This triggered a pursuit by the patrol team, which successfully apprehended the two individuals.
A subsequent search of the suspects led to the discovery of an AK-47 assault rifle, bearing serial number 68098152, loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition. The weapon, DCOP Annor revealed, was hidden inside a bag the suspects were carrying.
Following the initial arrests, police extended their investigations to Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso. A search conducted at Mawutor’s residence resulted in the arrest of the third suspect, Mawuli Dogba, and the recovery of an additional arsenal.
Items retrieved from Mawutor’s room include:
-
A Beretta Bruni pistol (serial number MOD.92)
-
An NM157-1941 pistol
-
30 rounds of 9mm ammunition
-
50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition
-
Four Motorola handsets
-
A Contixo F35 drone
-
A machete
-
A bayonet knife
DCOP Annor disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the weapons were obtained on the very day of the arrests. He alleged that Mawutor, Dogba, and a third suspect currently at large, identified as Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, procured the firearms in Techiman, located in the Bono East Region.
Police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect and are investigating whether other individuals are connected to the alleged plot.
The Regional Commander reassured residents of the Ahafo Region of the police service’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security. He urged the public to continue volunteering credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
All three suspects remain in police custody pending further investigation and processing.
