Amber Heard donates seven-figure divorce settlement from Johnny Depp to LA Children’s Hospital
Amber Heard stayed true to her word.
The actress followed through on her promise to donate the money from her $7 million divorce settlement from Johnny Depp to charities helping abused women and sick children.
While the exact number is unclear, the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles revealed in its annual report that Heard donated between $1 million and $5 million at some point during the July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017 fiscal year.
“On behalf of all the children and families whose lives you have impacted, and everyone at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, we offer our sincere thanks,” the hospital’s 2017 annual report reads.
Heard announced in August that she would be donating her entire divorce settlement.
“Money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” she said in a statement at the time.
Heard and Depp’s ugly divorce ended a short 15-month marriage marred by claims of verbal and physical abuse, including an alleged drunken attack in which the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star hurled a cell phone at his wife and left her with a bruised face.
The couple offered a canned joint statement after finalizing the split.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm,” the statement read.
“Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future.”
